Healthy Start
The Healthy Start Program in Florida was enacted by state legislation in 1991 with the goals of reducing infant mortality, reducing the number of low birth weight babies and improving health and developmental outcomes for all Florida's babies. The Sumter County Healthy Start Program is offered at Thomas E. Langley Medical Center and is available to all women and children free of charge. Services available through the program include:
Care Coordination and Outreach
Breastfeeding and Childbirth education
Parenting education and support
Smoking Cessation Assistance
Psychosocial counseling
Home Visits
Many other services to address individual identified risks

The Sumter County Healthy Start Program strives to improve infant developmental outcomes, reduce the number of low birth weight babies born in Sumter County, and reduce infant mortality in the state of Florida.
