Behavioral Health

Thomas E. Langley Medical Center's Behavioral Health Department is professionally staffed with an experienced Psychiatrist, and with Licensed Clinical Social Workers, to satisfy your counseling and psychotherapy needs. Behavioral Health offers a variety of services for all ages, including individual, couples, and family/group counseling. Services are available for people experiencing difficulty with their emotions, behaviors, or perceptions. Some of the most common problems treated include ADD/ADHD, Depression, Bipolar disorder, Schizophrenia, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Anxiety, Abuse, and Addiction recovery, however treatment is available for many issues which cannot all be listed here. Therapeutic interventions are tailored to the needs of each patient and their individual treatment goals, and include medication management when necessary.

The Behavioral Health Department also offers Employee Assistance Programs for area businesses and insurance companies.

Joan B. Smiley, LCSW

Counselor/Social Work

Ms. Smiley has previously worked in several facilities and in private practice in central Florida. Originally from Philadelphia, she moved to Florida in 1981. She has four grown children and enjoys twelve grandchildren. She likes biking and is an animal lover.

She earned her bachelor's degree in social work (BSW) from the University of South Florida. She then obtained her master's degree in social work (MSW) from the University of Central Florida. Additionally, she is a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW). Ms. Smiley is actively involved in the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) as she participates on several state work-groups including the Ethic's committee for NASW. Moreover, she was awarded Social Worker of the Year for 2001 by the Nature Coast Unit of the NASW.


Naomi Corey, LCSW

Counselor/Social Work

Naomi Corey has worked in several facilities and in private practice in the Central Florida area. Naomi has more than 25 years experience working with troubled youth. She specializes in domestic violence, sexual assault, women's issues and play therapy for youngsters. Originally, from Bennington, VT, Naomi moved to Florida in 2002. Naomi lives with her parents and two small dogs, Truffles and Max. Naomi enjoys going to the beach, networking, drawing, photography, and animals.

Naomi earned her Associates Degree in Human Services and her Bachelor's Degree in Human Services/Education from Southern Vermont College. She received her Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Central Florida. Naomi is active in The National Association of Social Workers and is a past Chairperson of the Lake/Sumter Chapter. Naomi was awarded Social Worker of the Year for 2008.
